Tattoo Removal

Over 45 million people in the United States have at least one tattoo. Body art may become unpopular for a variety of reasons. The most often utilized laser for tattoo removal is a Q-switched laser. The laser breaks down the pigment into small enough particles for the ink to be filtered out by the body’s natural filtering system. It’s possible that multiple treatments are required.

What laser machine is used for Tattoo removal at your clinic?

We use Q-switched YAG Spectrum Laser from Rohrer Aesthetic. This is an FDA-approved machine for Tattoo removal. The Q-Switched Yag/KTP laser, a laser used to remove tattoos, is part of the spectrum. A wide variety of tattoo colors can be removed using the dual wavelengths (1064nm/532nm) of the Q-switched Yag laser.

Tattoo Removal Pre-Treatment instructions

Avoid sun exposure, including tanning beds for two weeks before and after the treatment.

Before the therapy, a cold compress can be applied for 10-15 minutes.

3 to 7 days before the therapy, avoid pain relievers such Motrin, Aleve, and aspirin.

Protect Your Skin: Heat and sunlight exposure can lead to skin irritation. For four weeks after treatment, avoid applying high heat, any form of direct sunlight, tanning beds, and self-tanners to the areas that will receive therapy. After 24 hours of microneedling, use a physical sunscreen (including zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) and wear sunglasses, a large-brimmed hat, and an umbrella if you must be outside. ZO physical sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher is advised.

These products offer broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection without using chemical sunscreens. When exposed, apply 30 minutes before exposure and frequently (every 2 hours or such).

What precautions to take if we are removing a tattoo on your face?

PLEASE NOTE: If you have any history of cold sores, please notify the doctor immediately as you may need to be pre-medicated with a prophylactic medicine for cold sore

Patients with a history of cold sores should take “suppressive” antiviral medication starting 1-2 days before any facial treatment and continued for 5-7 days to prevent an outbreak. Topical treatment using acyclovir ointment may be of benefit in facial infections. The doctor can prescribe these medicines before starting the treatment.

Post-treatment care instructions for tattoo Removal

On completion of a tattoo removal treatment, patients may experience minor discomfort and redness. This discomfort will subside quickly. However, the redness will last for 24-48 hours. Once the redness is gone the treated area will look similar to the way it did prior to treatment. Pinpoint bleeding may also occur.

  • Patients may wash the treated area as normal.
  • It is recommended that the treated area be coved with an antibiotic ointment for 1-week.
  • The body will absorb the broken-up ink and the area should be retreated every 9-weeks.
  • Multiple treatments may be required to achieve the desired result

How many laser treatments do I need for removing my tattoo?

You will need 6-12 treatments, 6-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the professional tattoo, close to heart, and ink colors like Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. Black color tattoo is usually easier to remove compared to colored tattoo.

Can the tattoo be removed completely?

A black tattoo is easier to remove completely than a colored tattoo. It also depends on the area and blood circulation hence it might need multiple rounds of laser treatment to get the tattoo dissolved. For professional tattoos, you still might have scars after 12 treatments.

How painful is a single treatment of tattoo removal?

Although laser tattoo removal can be painful, it probably won’t be as painful as obtaining the tattoo. The discomfort of getting a tattoo removed is similar to that of getting a horrible sunburn, and the laser pulses feel like rubber bands snapping on your skin.
